Somatic practices are easy to learn, and don’t take a lot of your time. The manner in which these practices cultivate a new way of being is based in behavioral neuroscience. In this sense, embodiment work is a lot about doing something that you won’t necessarily be able to explain afterwards. At the same time, if you do the work, you will experience significant changes in your life.
What embodiment work will do for you is transform the shape that is held within your physiology as a result of myriads of experiences that you’ve had over the course of your life. These patterns are part of every interaction you have with other human beings; but also, even more than that, they’re part of every interaction that you have with yourself. In our everyday reality, we are by no means aware how much our body, and therefore the information stored in our physical structure, determines the outcomes of all our actions. In short, by changing our body awareness, we’re able to not just change the shape of our body, but also of the reality we create. By changing movement patterns and postural habits in an intentional way, we change how we communicate with the world and ourselves. More often then not we won’t even know what caused the changes. We do know, however, that us feeling different makes a difference in the outcomes that we experience, as well as the way others experience relating to us.
The fast-growing fields of neuroscience and biopsychology have revealed that the way we experience the world is directly linked to our bodies and the physical sensations we regularly live with. In other words, your thoughts and perceptions are shaped by your bodily experiences. These in turn influence your capacity for taking meaningful action to shape your life. This fact highlights the possibility of the body being the most effective doorway to transformation and growth in every dimension of your life. Somatic coaching doesn’t simply improve life at your present level. It transforms you from one way of being to another – like a full system upgrade. By deliberately placing yourself in intentional practices that engage the body as the Self, you become more conscious and capable of embodying wisdom, compassion, and life-affirming skillful action.
